This feature-length documentary tells the history of a revolutionary insane asylum & the rise and fall of adequate treatment for the mentally afflicted in America. Formerly known as the Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane, the Peoria State Hospital was abandoned in the village of Bartonville, Illinois in 1973. Highlighted throughout the film are the tragic lives of the forgotten patients & notable advocate, Dr. George Zeller.
It is my goal as its producer to expose my research to as many people as possible. People need to be educated about mental health advocates like Dr. Zeller, while creating an awareness of our current climate on mental illness in our country.
Included on this site is a collection of my 35mm still work of the grounds of the abandoned asylum.
All donations to the production will be used in the push out to libraries in communities and schools throughout the U.S.
This documentary hopes to raise awareness and save the last piece, The Bowen Building.
